LUCKNOW – A fatwa by Darul Uloom Deoband expressing that it is un-Islamic to shave one's facial hair has put hairdressers from the group and clean shaven Muslims in a dilemma.

The hairdresser in Saharanpur who looked for the fatwa has chosen neither to shave nor trim any facial hair, the Times of India reported.

The fatwa issued by India's driving Islamic theological school in Saharanpur was looked for by Mohammmad Irshad and Mohammad Furqan, who run a hair salon in Bajia-ul-Haq region of the region. For the present, the twosome has quit shaving or trimming of facial hair.

Issued by a board of three muftis – Faqrul Islam, Waqar Ali and Zain-ul-Qasmi – the Fatwa expresses that shaving a facial hair was un-Islamic as it is not allowed in the Sharia.

"The Islamic constitution doesn't permit us to decrease the whiskers of a man of any religion. On the off chance that somebody is around here he ought to attempt to change to some other occupation," the fatwa peruses.

"The Fatwa was issued in the light of the Sharia and is taking into account the reason that keeping a clean shave is un-Islamic and the individuals who helps somebody to do anything that is not allowed in Islam, offers the obligation regarding the infringement," clarifies Maulana Ashraf Usmani, the spkesperson for Darul Uloom Deoband.

Priests in Lucknow say not supporting a facial hair is un-Islamic but rather not taboo in Islam. "Supporting a facial hair is Sunnah," says Maulana Khalid Rashid Firangi Mahali, who heads a unit that issues fatwas in Lucknow.

"Shaving a facial hair is Mamnoo (not favored) but rather not Haraam (prohibited) in Islam," he says.

For the salon proprietor couple which looked for the Fatwa, the current issue was persuading the demographic that shaving was un-Islamic, henceforth they were not offering the administration any more. Thus, they have set up a duplicate of the fatwa outside their shop. For the time being they are just offering administrations like dressing and trimming of hair.

The salon proprietors say it was getting troublesome for them to clarify why they were not offering administrations like shaving or trimming whiskers, so they chose to set up duplicate of the fatwa.

The pronouncement has left hair salon proprietors in Lucknow in a situation. "We are not mindful of the fatwa and once we get a duplicate of it, we will choose what should be done," says Shahid Siddiqui, onwer of a salon in Lucknow.
