NEW DELHI (Web Desk) – India has decided to boycott Commonwealth Parliamentary conference scheduled to be held on September 30 to October 9 in Islamabad, media reports said on Friday.
The decision is followed by a Pakistani statement about not inviting the speaker of Indian held Kashmir assembly to the conference as it has been a declared as a disputed territory by United Nations.
The Pakistan foreign office, however, refused to comment when asked to confirm the news saying “India has yet not informed about boycotting the conference formally”. It further added that United Nations and the UNSC had clrealy termed Kashmir as a disputed territory in unanimously adopted resolutions.
Pakistan is going to host the 61st Commonwealth Parliamentary Conference, , first ever of the country, that will be attended by more than 500 participants including, Speakers, Presiding Officers, Deputy Presiding Officers, Parliamentarians as well as other important parliamentary stakeholders from across the 53 Member states.
The conference is expected to discuss and analyse global political issues and developments in the parliamentary context of commonwealth countries.
